HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY SURGERY? You and the surgery scheduler will determine the date
most convenient for both you and the doctor. Although we will try to meet your needs, physician and facility availability influence the scheduling and could result in a delay. If you are planning your
postoperative recovery out of the WNY area this must be discussed with your surgeon before any plans are made. Postoperative visits and hand therapy may be required. HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY SURGERY?
Surgery may require pre-admission testing. Preadmission testing may include the following: blood work,
urinalysis, x-rays, EKG.PreAdmission Testing Through Kaleida System: If pretesting is done through the Kaleida system you will be notified by mail from the PreAdmission Department of the
facility where surgery will be performed as to the date and time for your tests usually about a week prior to surgery. If copies are needed by your primary doctor for a medical clearance, please inform the
Pre-admission Department the day of your testing. Pre-admission Testing Outside of Kaleida System: If pretesting is done outside of the Kaleida system you will be responsible to obtain a history
and physical evaluation by your primary physician. The form for this will be mailed to you. What about smoking? Please refrain from smoking for at least 12 hours before your surgery. NOTE: Because
cigarette smoking interferes with wound healing and tissue recovery, we encourage you to avoid cigarettes and secondhand smoke two weeks before and four weeks after surgery.Medical Clearance. If
you have particular medical condition, your surgeon may ask you to see your personal doctor for "medical clearance" which is approval from your medical doctor to have the indicated surgery and
anesthesia; to say that your health is acceptable for the procedure. Medical clearance must be in writing. Also, the Anesthesia Department reviews all pretesting, and they may also require you to obtain medical
clearance. Unfortunately, all this may occur just a few days before your surgery. While sometimes stressful, it is to ensure that you may safely have the planned surgery with minimal risks. We will assist you with
obtaining medical clearance, if necessary. What do I need to do the DAY BEFORE surgery? DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT the evening before surgery unless you have been given alternate instructions from us.
MEDICATIONS TAKEN ON A REGULAR BASIS: If you take any medications on a regular basis, the physician who ordered the medication should be contacted for instructions.
All jewelry, nail polish and acrylic nails must be removed prior to arrival. |
